ROSSLYN, South Africa (Dec. 14, 2018) – As part of the launch of the new Datsun GO and GO+, Datsun challenged Twitter enthusiasts in South Africa to an online tug-of-war in November.
Participants were given the task of digitally “pulling” the new Datsun GO all the way to their city, street and finally into their garage. Contestants could win a new Datsun GO by showcasing their social media savvy – tweeting the greatest number of times with a hashtag specific to their city.
Vanessa Posthumus, a resident of Krugersdorp North, won the city contest by managing to “pull” the car into her driveway. She persuaded her family, friends, neighbors and colleagues to participate in the tweet-race to the finish line.
“I joined the competition when it hit the city stage and have been tweeting ever since – I can’t even remember the number of times I had to tweet to pull the car closer to me,” Posthumus said.
People in more than 23 cities participated in the contest, and the total number of tweets exceeded 79,000, helping more people become familiar with the Datsun GO. Although the new Datsun GO and GO+ only went on sale in mid-November, customers have already bought more than 1,000 units.
